Cloudflare Fundamentals, Workers - Introducing Billable Usage dashboard and Budget alerts
Key Points
- Daily billable-usage view matching invoice amounts
- Dollar-based budget alerts with daily projection and dedupe
- Pay-as-you-go accounts only; Enterprise not supported
Summary
Pay-as-you-go Cloudflare customers can now track usage-based charges daily and set dollar-based spend alerts via two new features: the Billable Usage dashboard and Budget alerts. Figures are derived from the same system that generates your invoice so displayed costs match billable overages.
Key Points
- Billable Usage dashboard
- Daily bar chart of usage charges for the current billing period.
- Sortable table breaking down usage by product (total usage, billable usage, cumulative costs).
- Can view previous billing periods; usage aligns to your billing cycle (not calendar month).
- Budget alerts
- Set one or multiple dollar thresholds at the account level; receive email when projected monthly spend crosses a threshold.
- Alerts are calculated daily from usage trends and fire once per billing cycle when first crossed; system deduplicates simultaneous triggers.
- Availability and scope
- Available to Pay-as-you-go accounts with usage-based products (Workers, R2, Images, etc.).
- Enterprise contract accounts are not supported.
How to access and configure
- Dashboard: Manage Account > Billing > Billable Usage.
- Set a budget alert: Manage Account > Billing > Billable Usage > Set Budget Alert, or Notifications > Add > Budget Alert.
- Budget threshold must be > $0.
Notes for engineers
- Use the Billable Usage dashboard for daily operational visibility and to reconcile projected monthly usage to invoice line-items.
- Budget alerts provide proactive, email-based notifications (useful for automated cost controls or hooking into runbooks).
- Expected behavior: total at billing-period end matches usage overage charges on the invoice.
